Tripod City on way to Denali Park

Today we drove a short way to Denali, AK. Here is some of the scenery on the way to Nenana. There was a forest fire somewhere southwest of Nenana but we did not see any smoke from it.

One very interesting sight was a helicopter with a bucket scooping up water from a lake to fight the fire. It was hard to get a picture of it so this is the best I got.

We stopped at Nenana for a rest break and to see the tripod that they place on the Tanana River ice during the winter. It is hooked up to a clock and when the ice breaks up on the river the clock stops. You can buy tickets in most stores and submit your guess as to when the ice will break up. We didn't waste our money. This is one of the tripods not in use any more.

This town also had lots of cute shops that we explored.

This is the current tripod.

Here is a small church in Nenana.
This is the plaque on the tripod that is not in use any more. They have been doing this for a long time.

I loved this sigh over a bench beside s small gift shop.

I didn't see anyone sit down.

The flowers in Alaska are beautiful! They grow larger here than any place I have ever seen. It is the almost continuous sunshine for 90 days.

This old cabin was moved here as part of a shopping village but it wasn't open.

This is an Indian fish wheel. It scoops fish out of the water and puts them in an area for collection.

Here are some of our people at the Tripod Gift Shop.

Here we are trucking on down the road towards Denali.

We were seeing some incredible mountains on the way

Also some beautiful winding rivers.

We will tour the Denali NP tomorrow.
