4th of July Alaska style

Wayne decided to let his hair grow so he now has a pony tail.

Actually, the tail comes off with the hat which belongs to one of the other guys in the group. We walked over to town past the pond where they keep salmon hatchlings to town.

We also walked past two of the yellow buses that take people around the area.

They had all of the streets in town blocked off to traffic. Some in a very unusual way.

We stood on the corner opposite the Red Onion Saloon to watch the parade.

This is Alaska's 50th year as a State so some of the floats carried that theme.

There were Native Americans,

"Sarah Palin" and spouse,

old touring buses,

dog sleds (my favorite),

"Soapy Smith" and his gang from the play the night before,

more floats,

bagpipers,

Royal Mounted Police,

old cars (Wayne's favorite old car),

an 80+ year old lady on a bike,

people in costume,

and more. After the parade we wandered around town. Wayne took my picture with some RCMP.

We watched Stan and Sharon from our group in an egg throwing contest that took up two city blocks.

They did very well and were on opposite curbs before Stan dropped the egg.

We ate hamburgers at the Firemen's booth then went to the Red Dog Saloon for a drink.

That's the fun thing about being in a small town for the 4th of July--they go all out and make a big festival . To top off the day we walked down by the water and caught a glimpse of an eagle.

First he flew around and then landed in a tree. Naturally I didn't have the camera with the good lens on it.

It's never a dull moment on the tour. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
