Susan Butcher's Iditarod Kennel

We went to Susan Butcher's Iditarod Kennels for Dinner (Salmon and Prime Rib). We saw a movie about her experiences on the Iditarod which she won three times consecutively and then won one more time for a total of four. She then quit racing to raise a family and continued with her kennel. Susan passed away from leukaemia in 2006. Her husband, David Monson, is devoted to keeping her memory alive and continuing with the kennels. Here is David Monson demonstrating on our tailgunner, Jack, the clothing that a musher typically wears during the race where the temperatures plummet to well below zero.

Jack couldn't wait to get off all of the clothing as it was quite hot.

Here are some of the kennels. Each dog is tethered to a lead that allows him/her to have a large area where they can run in circles and get on top of their houses or into them. These dogs love to run and some of them run constantly.

The best part of the visit was getting to hold the puppies. Here I am with one of them. They were so sweet. I really miss having a dog to love on.

It has been a very busy afternoon and everyone is tired.
