Gold panning in Dawson City

After dinner we headed up to Bonanza Creek where the city has a claim that people can pan on. Spike gave us a lesson on gold panning and he provided boots and pans. He told the men where to go to dig a bucket of dirt which was sifted through a 1" sieve. Then we each got a handful of dirt and began panning.

We panned for several hours and Wayne and I got quite a few small pieces of gold.

This is hard work. I have no idea how the miners did this for hours a day for days at a time. It was fun though and Wayne says I have gold fever.
