To Juneau and back

We had to get up early today to meet the Fjord Express to Juneau. As we were walking along the dock by the jetty we saw a familiar site that reminded us of the Texas coast. A heron was walking along looking for breakfast.

This is one of the small cruse ships that also dock at Skagway along with Holland America, Norwegian and other larger ships.

Along the way the captain pulled over by this sea lion habitat and we watched the sea lions playing.
We spotted an eagle in a tree.

The captain said that this was the longest waterfall in Alaska. It was really beautiful.

There was an eagle flying in the top left hand corner as we were approaching the lighthouse on the island.

This is where we docked in Juneau. There was a bus waiting for us to take us on a city tour.

After the city tour we walked around the Juneau area and wandered into this bar for a drink.
When the bus picked us back up, we went to the Mendenhall Glacier and as we were walking towards the Visitor's Center we saw a lot of people taking pictures of something in a tree. It turned out to be a porcupine.

The glacier was beautiful. It had recently calved and there were chunks of it floating in the lake in front of it.
On the way back to Skagway we saw the fishermen that were in the tournament we had heard about that morning. they were pulling in nets with fish in them.
We saw another eagle. This one was sitting on the shore.

I also took pictures of our group that were on the boat. This is Linda and Ed. She is a former teacher. We have been sharing rides with them. Everyone's picture has their name on it.

This is the interior of the boat. It was bright and staffed by the captain and his daughter coming down the aisle.

More of the people on our tour.

A spectacular mountain.

Here is a better picture of the lighthouse on the island.

This area was swarming with another familiar bird--the sea gull.

The trip down this one fjord had just about convinced us that we want to take an Alaskan cruise up the inside passage. It is beautiful scenery.

This is one of the two big cruise ships we encountered on our way back to Skagway.

We saw several whales on our way back. This was our best picture.

These are some of Lance's pictures.

Wayne is thinking about getting a better camera that takes pictures faster than we can.
