South to Florence

Before we headed out this morning, Wayne took me over to show me the area where they clean the fish. One boat had already come in and this is a picture of its largest halibut.

Then we headed South for the day. This area is called Seal Rock but we didn't see any seals. It is interesting how the rocks provide for a protected area when the tide is up.

This was looking the opposite direction at Seal Rock Beach.

When we got to Florence they were having a Rhododendron Festival and there was also a bikers' rally in town so driving around was very slow. This picture is out of sequence but I couldn't get it to move and I wanted to include it.
This is a gorge where the water blows straight up in the air during real high tides and storms. We had neither today.
Here is Wayne looking out over the railing at one of the many overlooks. There are State Parks and National Forest Parks and way points all along the coast so you have lots of opportunities to get out and look around.

At one point we went down on the beach. As you can see, the Oregon beaches are not like the beaches any where else. This one was close to a river so there were river rocks all over it.

This is the Heceta Head Lighthouse.

This is a totem pole outside a restaurant shortly before we got to the Sea Lion Cave north of Florence.

You could see the sea lions swimming around in pods in the water without going down into the cave.

They were also sunning themselves on the rocks outside the cave.

This is a statue on the way to the elevator taking you to the cave.

These are some birds nesting on the rocks. I think they are cormorants.

I took two pictures in the cave and they both turned out awful but here is one anyway.

The walk back up the slope from the elevator was tough but I made it. Wayne stayed topside.

We went back to the motorhome and rested for a while then we went over to the boat ramp to watch the boats come in. There was a sea lion there that was having a ball. I have to upload those pictures to a different blog.
