Bon Fire and Drive up to Gold Beach

Last night Greg and Connie built a fire and we joined them for conversation and wine.  What fun we had.

We awoke Thursday to cloudy skies but we were hopeful that the skies would clear.  We waited around until 10 o’clock then we got in the car and headed north.  We didn’t have any idea as to how far we would drive.

Our first stop was at House Rock Viewpoint.  We had to climb some stairs and walk up an incline to get there.

Wayne took a picture of me by the plaque commemorating the dedication of Samuel Boardman State Park.

I took a picture of him taking a picture of Whalehead Cove behind me.

This is a picture of the rocks behind him.  We’re not sure if this is what they were referring to as house rock or not but these were the only rocks we saw.

This is Whalehead Cove.

The drive from here on was very wet and we didn’t get out to take pictures.  We arrived in Gold Beach and stopped at the Port Hole Cafe on the harbor for lunch.

We stopped at the Rogue River Myrtlewood Factory and Gift Shop.  The artisan wasn’t there today but we were able to see some of his work in progress as well as many finished pieces.  These were beautiful.  Myrtlewood is kin to the California laurel.  I forgot to bring my camera in.

Next to the myrtlewood place was a place where a woman made homemade soup everyday and jams and jellies.  Wayne got some black raspberry jam.

We didn’t feel like driving any further due to the weather so we returned to Brookings.  Right now I am looking our at partly cloudy skies so I think I will take Trouble for a walk.
