To Ingonish

Five coaches spent last night in Antingonish.   Unfortunately, Jack and Martha had car problems that couldn’t be repaired in Canada and so they had to head home.  Mike and Patty picked up his cousin, Diane, two days ago.  Then yesterday Mike took Patty to the airport to fly home for a month and he and Diane stayed an extra day to see Halifax.  They will join us later today.  Jack, Martha, and Patty will be missed.

After listening to the rain most of the evening and night, we awoke this morning and headed to the town of Ingonish on Cape Breton.  It was a short drive and soon we were welcomed to Cape Breton.

Much of the road was along the water’s edge.  Here we could see land across the water.

This was a government building in Baddock.

We stopped in Baddock at the Alexander Graham Bell National Park.

Looking out towards the water you could see this lighthouse on a tiny piece of land.

The museum itself was expansive.  First we went to a short movie about his life and his work.  Most of what I knew of Bell was his invention of the telephone and his work with deaf children.

However, this was just a little of what this genius had in his mind.  It appears that he sketched endlessly and this resulted in many inventions that had applications in the air and on the water.  This is the result of one of his sketches.

From Baddock, we headed up the Cabot Trail and more beautiful scenery.

The tide affects the streams and rivers in this area as well.

As we came into Ingonish Beach, we caught up with Mike and his cousin, Diane, at the Park Information building.  We had to cross traffic to get into the parking lot and Mike stopped traffic for us.

After getting set up at Broad Cove campground and having happy hour, we drove back into Ingonish for dinner.  This is the view from the restaurant.
