St. Ignace

We drove across the Mackinaw Bridge (or Big Mac as is is often referred to) this morning.  It was a beautiful day and the traffic was minimal.

St. Ignace is home to the Museum of Ojibwa Culture.

This is a reproduction of a typical Ojibwa home.

These are two of the boarding houses along the main street.

This is one of the many lighthouses in the area.

This is some of downtown St. Ignace.  It is not a very big town.

They have the old Mackinaw Boat, the Edith Jane, encased in a glassed in enclosure along the boardwalk.

This is the museum on the site of the old Fort de Buade.

This is a “lighthouse” attached to another museum.

This is Castle Rock on the right.  if you look between the gift shop and the rock, you can see a statue of Paul Bunyan and Babe.

Here is another view of Castle Rock.  If you are adventurous you can climb to the top.  As you can see, we are driving by it.

This is Lake Superior from the bridge on our way back.

This is Colonial Michioimackinac that is located at an 1770s era fort and trading village.

going back to the campground we saw more evidence that the trees are beginning to change color.  It won’t be too long now.
