This morning Wayne and I decided to drive to Peggy’s Cove.
The drive from Tantallon on HWY 333 takes you along St. Margaret’s Bay and there were some beautiful coves along the way. As you can see by the pier at the right, the tide was not quite back up in this area.
We drove through the towns of Glen Haven,French Village, Seabright, Glen Margaret, Hackett’s Cove, and Indian Harbour and saw this pretty church along the way.
You can see islands out in the water that will soon be covered.
Another pretty church.
This old house sitting on the hill is typical of the houses that we saw along the way.
We stopped at the Flight 111 Memorial.
There was a long winding walkway to the top where the memorial was. All along the way were these berry bushes. Someone is going to have some good picking later in the summer.
This is the memorial for the Swissair plane that went down with no survivors in 1998.
As we neared Peggy’s cove I saw another pretty church sitting on a hill.
This church has an unusual carving in a chunk of granite depicting sailors on the right and I think I saw a carving of Christ on the left.
One of the unique things in Peggy’s Cove are the little gift stores and craft stands. This craft stand had some beautiful knitted caps and wood carvings.
Peggy’s Cove was an old fishing village and there are still old fishing shacks and boats lying around.
The tide was still out here as well.
The most famous thing about Peggy’s Cove is it’s lighthouse. I took this picture but unfortunately it was foggy today.
This is what it is supposed to look like. I took a picture of a postcard.
This was a lobster trap and buoy shop.
We stopped in at Espresso on the Deck for some wonderful meat and cheese pastries.
We sat on the deck to eat them then I shopped in the shop and took this picture of the Old Red Schoolhouse.
More old fishing shacks.
And old boats.
We drove back up to the lighthouse but it was still foggy. This is looking down at the water from the rocky cliffs above the water.
This old house is on the edge of Peggy’s Cove.
We drove back through West Dover, McGrath Cove, Bayside, Shad Bay and Whites Lake towards Halifax and then back to the park. These are some of the sights we saw.
Look at all the lobster traps.
I don’t know if this boat will float when the tide comes in or not.
Here we are at the park.
