Around 10:30 this morning we drove downtown with Mike and Patty and Fred and Barbara. We were going to the Alexander Keith’s Nova Scotia Brewery that was established in 1820.
I doubt that this sign is original but it looks just like the sign in old pictures.
Here are Wayne and Patty waiting for everyone else to show up. This archway is where the wagons of supplies came in and the barrels went out.
Once inside the tunnel the courtyard had been covered and all of the buildings have been labeled as to what their original purpose was. That’s Mike walking towards the ticket counter for the tour.
The statue on the left is of Alexander Keith. He came to Halifax as a trained beer maker. He worked for the local beer maker for a while before buying him out.
When it was time for the tour, we were greeted by a costumed tour guide.
After watching a short film about Alexander Keith, we were greeted by a different tour guide who explained the brewing process.
Here are some of the brewing and distilling vessels.
After the tour we were invited into the Stag’s Head tavern.
We were greeted by the barkeep and the barmaid.
They explained about the different types of beer that are made and we were given a mug of whatever beer we chose. After the tour we took a walk down on the waterfront which I will tell about in the next blog.
