After lunch we re-boarded the bus for a tour of the country side. We headed across a bridge to Ile d’Orleans. This island has lots of farms, orchards, and vineyards.
We stopped at a chocolate makers for candy.
This old house had very interesting flowers made of metal.
We drove back to the mainland and continued east to Parc de la Chute-Montmorency. This beautiful 83 meter-high waterfall is 20 meters higher than Niagara Falls. It is bordered by trails and lookouts as well as a bridge over the falls. There is a cable car that takes you to the top on the left of the falls or you can climb the 487 steps of the panoramic stairwell that winds its way up the cliff side to the right of the falls.
Right down the road there is another falls that was very pretty.
There are many old homes in the area.
There is even one that looks like it should have been in The Addams Family.
Next stop was Cuivres D’Art Museum/Boutique. I didn’t take my camera in so I can’t show you the pictures but I can tell you that The artist, Albert Gilles, work in copper and silver is beautiful. They gave us a demonstration of how you go from a flat piece of copper to a 3-D piece of art.
We drove on to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre church.
These brass doors are an example of Albert Gilles’s work. As you can tell—they are exquisite!
The inside of the church was equally as beautiful. There were stained glass windows all around and frescos on the ceiling.
I particularly liked the baptismal area with this enameled copper piece of art.
The archway above the baptismal had seashells.
This is a close up of one of the door panels. It is of the birth of Christ. In Albert Gilles’ gallery he had done this work in silver so I am assuming that this was a reproduction of that work.
There were also beautiful granite or marble sculptures in the alcoves around the outside of the church.
On the ground floor was the chapel. There was a totally different feel to this area. The ceilings were low and curved and there was a blue haze to everything.
This is a picture of the ceiling detail.
Tomorrow it is off to Peterborough to see about getting the jack on the coach fixed or replaced.
