We took Trouble for a walk Tuesday night over to the other side of the park. It is also on the water and has a view of the crabbing pier.
Wayne took a few more pictures of the view in front of us as well.
Wednesday morning was a nice day so we drove over to Reedspoint to go to the Elk Viewing Area. This was the interpretive pavillion. If you look closely you can see the herd of elk to the right of the pavillion.
We took lots of pictures but most of them were of the elk with their heads down eating. Here are some with heads up.
There were lots of bucks with new velvet antlers.
I’m sure that some of the does have gone to the woods to have their babies.
After we left there we drove down by the Umpqua Rver. We were going slow enough for me to get a picture of these bright yellow bushes. We saw these all along the highway in Oregon.
We decided to go to the Umpqua Discovery Center. There was a totem pole out in front.
This was a very nicely done discovery center. The murals depicting the various scenes were wonderful. It had narrow walkways that had a slight incline which allowed them to put a lot of things in a smaller space.
Therre were even displays of things that would be underground in the floor.
A “cave” had pectographs depicted.
There were scenes of Umpqua life on the river.
And pictures of the explorers that came here.
There was then a depiction of a 1900’s tidewater town with a house for smoking salmon,
a school house for the children,
and even an old telephone. I remember those telephones.
Behind the discovery center were some beautiful azaleas. They must grow really well here in Oregon.
There was also the Schooner Cafe that I thought might be a good place for lunch.
We sat at a window table and had a beautiful view of the river.
I had a great sandwich and slaw and Wayne had a bowl of clam chowder and a salad. He is in search of the perfect clam chowders. Unfortunately this wasn’t it.
Then it was back to the coach for a rest before the evening crabbing.
