Wayne’s Tuna Trip

On Thursday Wayne went Tuna fishing out of Depoe Bay.  He had to be there at 5:30 am.  Needless to say I didn’t get up.  The seas were very rough and most boats came back after a short time with few tuna.  The Chum Bucket stayed out and came back with 15 fish.  Since there were only two other fishermen they each got to bring back 5 tuna each.  Here is the Captain and the two other fishermen on the boat.

When all was said and done Wayne froze lots of tuna fillets.

Whale Watching Trip

On August 1st we moved north to Lincoln City.  We are staying at the Logan Road RV Park that is close to the Chinook Winds Casino.
On Monday we scheduled a trip out of Depoe Bay to go whale watching.  Wayne has been wanting to eat at the Sea Hag but this picture is a close as we have gotten.

We booked a one and a half hour Zodiac trip.  I’m already seated on the boat and the captain is helping April get on.

We only went out about five minutes before we spotted out first spout.  Unfortunately we didn’t get a picture of that whale as it was too close to the boat and popped up before we could get out camera’s ready.
This whale popped up right in front of another whale watching boat.
 
It is the dark spot in front of the boat.  You can see how close they were to the shore.

Mike and Wayne at Air Museum

On July 25th Wayne and Mike went to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum.  This is a picture of the entrance.

This is a little shuttle that they use to run around the park.  Wayne and Mike didn’t get to ride in it.

This Huey is like the ones that Wayne made a lot of jumps into the jungle from.

Finally the Spruce Goose.  It was built entirely of wood by Howard Hughes and only made one flight.  It was designed to land on water.

 

It was hard to get a picture of the whole plane at once.  This is the tail section of Spruce Goose.

and an American  F-16 along with other planes.

They  appear to have had a good day.

Mike and Patty visit Newport

Monday evening Mike and Patty, the friends we stayed with in Fair Oaks, CA, came by on their way to Seattle.

Monday night Mike went with us to Georgie’s for dinner.  Patty was recovering from a bad cough so she stayed home to rest.

Tuesday we got up and got ready to go to lunch and site seeing.  We ate at the Chalet which is also known as the Pie Shoppe.

 

Then we drove up to Yaquina Head Lighthouse so Mike and Patty could see the dock from the Japanese tsunami.  I caught Patty and Mike trying to take a picture of themselves with her phone. 

The seals today were on a different rock because the tide was in.

Tuesday night we all went to Nana’s for dinner.  Patty and I got the chicken pot pies, Wayne got the traditional corned beef and cabbage and Mike got fish and chips.  

Wednesday Patty and I went shopping and the men went to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum to see the Spruce Goose.  That is it’s own separate blog.  We found this darling boutique and sent a picture to Emily of a top that we thought she would like. 

 

We also found another dress for me to wear to my granddaughter’s wedding in December.

Wednesday night we went to the Green Gables Italian Restaurant for “All you can eat spaghetti.”  Yum.

Patty and Mike went walking on beach both Thursday and Friday mornings.  They walked all the way down to the dock both days. Friday morning Mike got interviewed by a TV reporter about what they should do with the dock.  He thinks they should make it into a bar.

Friday evening we drove to Lincoln City to have dinner at the Chinook Winds Casino.  When we got there we had to wait for a seat so we went to the restaurant/bar and had cocktails.

After dinner at the buffet we drove over to the little theatre to see the play “The Pearl.”  It was a fun play about mermaids who had rescued sailors and then fallen in love with them and become human.

 

Patty and Mike left Saturday morning for Seattle.  One last picture of the four of us.
