After delays leaving Houston due to the volcano eruptions, we finally arrived in Rome about 4:30pm May 11th. The driver from the hotel had come and gone so we had to find a taxi from the airport to the hotel. It turned out that he spoke excellent English so he could tell us about some of the things we passed. Below are some pictures from the taxi of the Roman Baths.
Here are some pictures of the Coliseum.
I’m not sure what these gates were to but they were on our way from the coliseum to the Hotel Napoleon.
Having not slept for two nights, Wayne collapsed as we waited for our luggage.
The room is small but nicely decorated and we get free Wi-Fi in the room.
This is the lobby area where they have a huge TV and computer for your use.
We went out to dinner at a wonderful Italian restaurant and then came back to the room to crash
Wednesday morning we got up and had the free breakfast at the hotel. We have booked a tour for this afternoon, tomorrow morning, and tomorrow evening so far.
We needed to exchange some USD for EUR so we went looking for a bank. This is the portico outside the hotel. The subway station is also right outside the door.
This is the corner where we turned to go to the bank. Note the three different facades.
Here is the artwork above the bank.
We got our EURs and headed back to the hotel to rest as we will be doing lots of walking this afternoon. More to follow.
