This morning we took off on our own and took the subway to see the Trevi Fountain. On our way, we saw this nice fountain.
Wayne took this beautiful picture of the Trevi Fountain. There were a few other tourist there as well.
From there we walked past Prada, Gucci and the like to the Spanish Stairs.
Here I am in front of the Spanish Stairs
We went back to the hotel for lunch in the bar.
After lunch we went on a tour of the Vatican Museums, Library, and Sistine Chapel. The Vatican City is surrounded by a high wall and this is the main entrance.
They have a model of Vatican City so that you can get an idea of how large it is.
There is an incredible amount of artwork in the Vatican including one area lined with sculpture.
The ceilings are ornately decorated. Some with flat frescos and some with carvings. There are even some painted to look like carvings.
Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures in the Sistine Chapel. We also were not able to go inside the Basilica as there were some special activities going on. Here is the Basilica dome from inside the Vatican Library.
Here is a view from in front of the Vatican gift shop that sells items made in the Vatican.
We exited the gates of Vatican City.
We drove around in front of the Basilica which forms part of the wall.
We arrived back at the hotel around 6:30 pm.
We found it interesting that they mark their fire extinguishers very clearly even when they are quite obvious.
We had supper at the hotel and then it was time for bed.
