Monday morning we got up bright and early to head to Sault Ste Marie, ON. It was only a 15 minute drive from the campground to the train station. Here is the train coming into the station.
The trees up here are closer to peaking. There are leaves of green, yellow, orange, and red everywhere.
Here we are.
The train took lots of turns.
Here we are going down 500 feet into the Agawa Canyon.
The canyon area is well groomed with picnic area.
There is an old souvenir car.
There is a high lookout platform but it was over 300 steps high so we stayed on the ground.
We had planned to walk to Otter Creek Waterfall but that trail and one other were closed due to the high rainfall last week. This is looking down at the Agawa River running through the canyon.
We were here an hour and a half to allow time for people to hike to the various places. Wayne and I took advantage of the stop to have lunch in the dinning car without worrying about our beverages splashing out.
We were able to see Bridal Veil Falls from the train as we headed back.
Here is some more of the beautiful color along the river.
This trestle on the right over the Montreal River is 130 ft. high and 1550 ft. long.
More color.
The leaves aren’t as pretty up close. The maples seem to provide the most color. As you can see they go from green to yellow to orange and finally to red.
We passed many lakes and rivers on the trip.
The scenery was awesome.
Wayne kept wishing he could fish the many rapids along the rivers.
This is Searchmont. It you look carefully you can see the ski slopes behind the building.
More color.
Going back toward the USA I was able to take a picture of the four US locks.
And here we are at customs.
I took over 300 pictures so there are only a few displayed here. For more pictures you can visit my Picasa Web Album at: http://picasaweb.google.com/marynelle/AgawaCanyonTourTrain?authkey=Gv1sRgCJXGq4WU37nnxwE&feat=directlink
