This was Friday and we were doing a scenic cruise of Glacier Bay. As we entered the Bay we stopped at the ranger station and picked up the Glacier Bay Park Rangers and Huna Cultural Interpreter. As you cruise the Bay there are mountains and glaciers on both sides of the ship.
There were far too many pictures to post them all. The first ones Wayne took sitting in one of the deck chairs. You can see by the railing in the pictures below how close we were to the land.
You can see by the way I am dressed that it was cold and windy on the deck.
Some of the glaciers didn’t come down to the water’s edge.
The park rangers told us about each glacier and which one we were seeing.
There were so many glaciers that there was no way that I could remember their names.
Here is a close up of the glacier above.
This was a particularly colorful glacier.
You can see the beautiful blue color in this close up.
Another glacier.
These chunks of ice in the water are the results of the glaciers calving and are called “Bergies.”
I guess they are not big enough to be referred to as true ice bergs.
Wayne caught this glacier calving. A piece of the glacier breaks loose and crashes into the water. It is very loud.
On the way out Wayne caught some pictures of this humpback whale.
He even got him diving.
We ate in the dining room that night. The kitchen staff paraded through the dining room and performed for us.
This was my pretty appetizer. I can’t remember now what it was. We had surf and turf for dinner.
In the evening they had a dessert extravaganza around the pool area. They allowed people to come in before it opened to take pictures. It was very pretty.
I love the way they carve the fruits and vegetables.
We decided not to fight the crowd to get something to eat and went back to the blackjack tables. We came back later and tried a few things but everything was dry. Wayne was playing with is camera and got a really close up of me.
That night we had a monkey in our room.
They teach you how to do all of these cute towel animals but where the heck would you ever use them.
